On March 30, 2015, the Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN, Ambassador Mirsada Čolaković spoke to the students of the University of Illinois, at the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN in New York City. These students will be playing the role of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the National Model United Nations Conference 2015. In order to be able to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina to the best of their abilities, the students were interested in learning more about the history, culture, and politics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Mirsada Čolaković familiarized the students with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s development after signing the Dayton Peace Agreement, current political issues in our country, and the priorities for foreign affairs. She pointed out the engagement and activeness of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the United Nations and the positions our country takes in various current issues in the UN.

After Ambassador Čolaković’s introduction, a discussion followed about UN peacekeeping missions and the involvement of Bosnia and Herzegovina in these missions. In addition, they discussed the way the UN Security Council is functioning and lessons learned from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
